The Flying Fox
The Whanganui River is rich in Maori culture and history with stunning scenic and natural beauty. We offer three hour canoe journeys daily following the path taken by early Maori through the beech and kanuka forests of the Whanganui National Park on the lower river.

Our trips include coffee and fresh muffins to be enjoyed on the riverbank surrounded by tree-ferns and bird-life and begin at The Flying Fox, an organic property where guests stay in hand-built cottages overlooking the river.

We also offer a combination jet-boat and freedom canoe journey which leaves from Pungarehu marae just 15 minutes drive from Wanganui.
Trips include basic canoe training, all equipment and a safety plan.
