25 family owned wineries from the Moutere Hills to the Waimea Plains crafting exquisite wines. Many of the wineries are small, but even the biggest operations are family-owned which means when you visit the cellar door you’ll often meet the winemaker and experience their passion first hand. The gravel-threaded clay soils of the Moutere Hills are renowned for producing wines of richness and texture while the Waimea Plains with stony soils of alluvial origin combined with high sunshine hours and a moderate maritime influence provide a great terrier. Home of the Nelson Aromatics Symposium 2010.
