Otari-Wilton’s Bush is the only public botanic garden in New Zealand dedicated solely to native plants.
This unique plant sanctuary of forest reserve and botanic garden covers over 100 hectares and contains many threatened species.
Some of Wellington's oldest trees are here, including an 800-year-old rimu. Walk along the magical treetop Canopy Walkway, 18 metres above the forest floor, or get down in the undergrowth on the Nature Trail. One of the loveliest areas in Wellington for a picnic is Otari’s Troup Lawn, alongside the Kaiwharawhara Stream.
Otari-Wilton's Bush, open daily between sunrise and sunset, is on Wilton Road, or take the No. 14 Wilton bus from Lambton Quay to Otari-Wilton's Bush.
