Believed to be New Zealand's only specialist encaustic art gallery, Ascot Gallery at Ascot Lodge Motel, Nelson, has original artworks for sale, created by the resident artist & also the opportunity for you to experience the unique wax art yourself by attending one of the lessons currently on offer. Encaustic art supplies are also available for purchase.
Dating back 2,500 years before dying out with the decline of the Roman Empire, encaustic became a forgotten art until the advent of portable heating devices in the 20th century.
Now into the 21st century the advent of specialty encaustic supplies has many people discovering a hitherto hidden artistic talent.
