The Ludbrook House and garden site, chosen for it's panoramic views was established in 1920. The NZ Garden Trust registered country garden features herbaceous borders around the large two-storied house. Stone walls surround a third of the garden perimeter and the Fine Foods Outlet Shop. To the northeast a haha wall exposes stunning views of the farmland, volcanic rocky outcrops, wet lands and surrounding ancient pa-sites.
An orchard of fig, citrus, quince, stone fruit and sub-tropical fruits supply product for Ludbrook House Fine Foods.
The lower garden is planted with native trees and flax, semi-tropical palms and bromeliads mingling with exotic trees and shrubs. A high man made bank leads around a winter wet, summer dry pond.
