Find the intriguing tales of Wellington. Housed in a significant heritage building on the Waterfront the Museum of Wellington offers a wonderful insight into the rich social and cultural history of Wellington. Highlights include The Wahine Maritime Disaster with a film by New Zealand filmmaker Gaylene Preston and Telling Tales – an interactive exhibition celebrating the diversity of 20th century Wellington life. A favourite with all visitors is A Millennium Ago, a dramatic 12 minute installation that uses holographic effects to tell Maori legends. Changing feature exhibitions delve into social, cultural or maritime stories. Don’t miss a visit to the Museum Shop, full of distinctive NZ-made gifts. Free tours take place every Sunday at 2pm.
