A recreational must do! The Walking Festival is a weekend full of fun and fellowship and non competitive walking. The programme starts on Friday afternoon with a mayoral reception and opening, then on Saturday, walks of marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), and 10km distances will go through some of the stunning bush and forest scenery tracks in the 'Redwoods' and 'Whaka' forests. On Sunday 30km, 20km, and 10km distances will go through the city CBD, gardens and parks, thermal reserves, lakeshore and bird sanctuary, and points of Rotorua historical interest. Also programmed each day are additional short activity walks and live afternoon entertainment.
Come on your own or make up a group, you will soon make more friends. Hundreds of local and out of town kiwis participate each year as well as many visitors from overseas.
