Imagine Tiki Taane taking you on a guided tour of the Maori Court, or Don McGlashan walking you through the Origins Gallery.
Embark on a whole new experience as you pull on headphones and explore Auckland Museum to exclusive music by top Kiwi sound artists and musicians, including Tiki Taane, Don McGlashan, Nathan Haines and Chris Adams.
The experiment in museum and music, called Sonic Museum, has seen us invite a host of acclaimed performers to choose a gallery which would inspire them to write a new track.
Each track was commissioned expressly; chosen galleries cover all three floors and include the Maori Court, Oceans, and the World War I Sanctuary. Sonic Museum provides an opportunity to find new meaning and relevance in the collections.
There are two ways to experience this innovative project. An audioplayer and headphones can be hired from the Museum, or the tracks can also be downloaded from www.sonicmuseum.co.nz onto your portable music player, which you can bring with you to the galleries.
