Len Castle: Mountains to the Sea - Nelson
12 Dec 2009
- 07 Feb 2010
Mountains to the Sea celebrates the inspiration of the New Zealand landscape in the work of renowned ceramicist, Len Castle.
The exhibition contains approximately sixty clay works from the Volcanic and Sea Secrets series that Castle has been developing since the 1990s. These are displayed along with the artist’s own photographs; beautiful images depicting those parts of our landscape where the elements are most extreme, and in which the brute force and unpredictability of nature are most potent.
Poems by leading New Zealand writers including Riemke Ensing, Paula Green, Michael Harlow, David Howard, Jan Kemp, Theresa Lloyd, Olivia Macassey, Cilla McQueen, Richard Reeve and Jack Ross provide a new exploration of Castle’s work and reflect on the many layers of possible meaning and intent behind each piece.
