The WOMAD festival experience is not about the familiar, the tried and tested; its essence is in the discovery and enjoyment of a totally unexpected artist or a style of music which would never otherwise have been encountered. It’s a magical, musical melting pot, enriching all who experience it.
WOMAD 2010 will be held March 12th - 14th.
Over three-days, hundreds of artists from all over the globe will deliver 30 hours of entertainment across six stages. You can enjoy films under the stars, eat and shop your way around the world, participate in workshops and conversations with artists and watch some of them cook their favourite dishes on the Taste the World stage.
The event has a capacity of 11,500 people each day so there is ample space to accommodate everyone in the 52 hectare venue. WOMAD NZ has gained a reputation as one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in the world.
At the heart of the festival is The Global Village. Made up of more than 80 stalls trading a vast range of international foods, beverages, arts and crafts.
WOMAD continues its well established place as the best festival for the whole family, by allowing all children 13 years and under, in for free. And Kidzone will have another creative programme packed brim full of activities to engage and inspire. The outcomes of which will be proudly paraded through the festival on Sunday evening.
Camping and marae style accommodation is available on site or the city offers a wide variety of accommodation – from low cost to high cost.
The line-up for WOMAD 2010 will be announced on 28 October.
