The Dunedin Cadbury Chocolate Carnival will be held from Saturday 11th July till Friday 17th July 2009.
The aim is to celebrate winter with chocolate by showcasing great events throughout Dunedin city that appeal to people of all ages. The Dunedin Cadbury Chocolate Carnival is now in its ninth year. In 2008 over 25,000 people visited and $90,000 was raised for local charities.
The most iconic event of the week is the Cadbury Jaffa Race. In 2009, 30,000 Cadbury Jaffas will be released from the top of Baldwin Street, the steepest street in the world. For those who are not familiar with the product, Cadbury Giant Jaffas are round balls of orange candy coated chocolate confectionery. Every Cadbury Giant Jaffa is individually numbered, tickets are sold and the sweets are released from the top of the street. The Dunedin Cadbury Chocolate Carnival hosts a number of events during the week, some are free to enter and others have a minimal charge. There is something for everyone with events including live theatre, cooking demonstrations, chocolate art classes, chocolate therapy and chocolate facials to name but a few.
