Instant Finance King of the Mountain
The King of the Mountain race was adopted as a fund raiser for the St Johns Brigade in 1958. There were 80 competitors of all shapes and sizes in the inaugural race - the starters were aged from 21 to over 50 years.

This became the first extreme sports event in New Zealand; with spectators making a contribution to the fund by donation.

The Progressive Panmure Business Association has been the event organiser over the past 6 years and the Association is supported by many volunteers from local schools and businesses. The King of the Mountain has grown to a major established sporting event on Auckland’s calendar and now has the following race day options for the novice, the family and serious athletes.

* 21km walk / run (walk starts at 8.30am, run starts at 9.30am)
* 11km walk / run (walk starts at 9.30am, run starts at 10am)
* 5km walk / run (walk starts at 10am, run starts at 10.30am)
* 5km Family / Baby Buggy Challenge (starts at 10.30am)
* 5km Wheelbarrow Challenge (starts at 10.45am)

All the races start and finish outside the Panmure Historic Hotel’s newly refurbished LandMark Bar & Eatery, and all the races including the Wheelbarrow Challenge do include the climb to the summit of Maungarei/Mt Wellington.
