02 Jul 2009  - 12 Jul 2009

FIBA U-19 World Championship for Men
From 2 to 12 July 2009 Auckland will host the FIBA U-19 World Championship for Men.

FIBA is the International Basketball Federation (Fédération Internationale de Basketball), the association of national organisations which governs international basketball competition. This event is the world’s most prestigious youth basketball event. Many of today’s basketball stars had their first international experience at this championship.

It is a 16 team championship with teams participating from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania. The teams are drawn into four pools matches, before reaching the quarter-finals, semis and then finals. Up to 300 athletes from around the world and over 60 officials are expected for the event.

Pool games will be spread between North Shore Events Centre and ASB Stadium, with the finals to be held at Vector Arena.
