Bay of Islands Eco-Trip
Northland is home to some of New Zealand's spectacular and most accessible coastline with a wide range of natural biodiversity. It has an impressive range of flora and fauna as well as native birds and marine mammals. Throughout the year there are a variety of bottlenose and common dolphin and the various sea birds include gannets and blue penguins, and at night time, the calls of nearby kiwi and penguins.

Combined with a rich cultural history that is deeply intertwined with this area, this trip provides an authentic experience that can only be experienced by a few.

On board the tall ship R.Tucker Thompson, you will not only get the chance to actually visit some of these remote locations inaccessible by road, but also play your own part in a keeping this environment pristine and special. Onshore guided walks will take you to hidden Kauri trees, deep in the native bush; then, in a reflection of more modern times a visit to a 19th century whaling station with its grim past and the iconic Cape Brett Lighthouse, recently restored by DOC. To reach these remote locations, you'll have the opportunity to sail a tall ship – a graceful reminder of times past when man's impact on the environment was only minimal.
