'Ply-ability' at the Hawke's Bay Museum and Art Gallery is a new exhibition devoted to the fascinating story of innovation and change - New Zealand plywood studio furniture.
12 December 2009 - 27 June 2010.
This exhibition looks at the innovation and change in NZ plywood studio furniture starting with Garth Chester’s Curvesse chair it includes a selection of Chester’s work from the 1940’s.
It then looks examples at modernist designers John Scott and Michael Payne, and contemporary makers Humphrey Ikin, Katey Wallace, Tim Wigmore, Duncan Sargent, Greg Smith, Chris Grattan, Simon James Design, David Trubridge Design, Room Two Design, Dan Emery and Candywhistle (Robbie Greig).
The exhibition will be accompanied by a 40 page plus exhibition catalogue, and a design based symposium looking beyond furniture design.
