Hillary's Axe
12 Aug 2009  - 29 Nov 2009

Hillary's Axe
Sir Edmund Hillary was an ‘ordinary’ New Zealander whose extraordinary deeds were achieved through great efforts. His humble determination showed us greatness is possible for anyone.

Sir Edmund once said his mountaineering career began with the Alpine Journal in one hand and an ice axe in the other. This ice axe accompanied a great man o a journey that brought him endearing fame as well as the deep and enduring affection of his country.

Hillary’s Axe showcases the ice axe used to cut a stairway to the pinnacle of the world. Alongside the axe the exhibit displays images and footage of Sir Edmund’s and Tenzing Norgay’s extraordinary climb.

Presented as a part of the Auckland Heritage Festival.

Celebrate the unique stories and secrets of Auckland while reflecting on our city's natural, built and social history. The festival will feature everything from art and architecture to fashion and music, something for people of all ages and interests.

September 19th - October 4th 2009.
