Kaweka Conservation Park's deer provide a challenge for hunters from all over the world
The Kaweka Conservation Park, which rises to 1724 metres above sea level, is a wilderness playground for those who like to get away from it all. The park will test your outdoor skills, but reward you with some of the best hiking, hunting and fishing in the country. A network of huts and bivouacs is managed by the Department of Conservation, making it relatively comfortable to stay a while in this perfect patch of wilderness.

The park has signposted tracks of varying length and difficulty; you'll come across camping, picnic, swimming and fishing spots along the way. Mangatutu Hot Springs is a popular destination for hikers.

Kaweka's sika and red deer provide a challenge for hunters from all over the world. Hunting is encouraged to keep the deer population under control. For those whose weapon of choice is a fishing rod, rainbow and brown trout are found the Mohaka, Makino and Ngaruroro Rivers - the fish are known for their size and fighting ability.

It's a good idea to talk to the local Department of Conservation office before you venture into this park. You'll get advice about weather and track conditions, which will help to make your adventure a success.
