Driftwood Ecotours can take you birding to the Wairau Lagoons, situated on the North Eastern coast of New Zealand’s South Island. We operate from October to July and customize our tours to your time frame.
94 species of bird have been recorded here and it has the largest breeding colony of Royal Spoonbill in New Zealand. The lagoons are protected from the ocean surf of Cloudy Bay by a boulder bank & sheltered from southerly coastal winds by towering White Bluffs. The Lagoon is the provinces largest inland water mass, the labyrinth of shallow lagoons and winding channels totaling 2300 hectares.
Tour by 4WD,kayak or hike into a regenerating protected bush to view tomtit, black fantail, warbler & bellbird. Enjoy Wills homemade muffins.
