Ski Tourism Marketing Network
The Ski Marketing Network is made up of some of New Zealand’s premier ski resorts and snow sports playgrounds, plus their adjacent regional areas. Members of the Ski Marketing Network include resorts in both the North and South Islands.
Collectively the Network combines resources to promote a winter skiing holiday through advertising and public relations work to raise consumer demand. This work is primarily focussed on Australia. Whilst Australia provides the largest volume of snow sports participants the Network understands the potential of other markets to deliver skiers and riders to New Zealand.
The ski resorts who are members of the Network are mature businesses who have worked with travel trade for many years. In most instances they have a pricing model that recognises the support from travel trade. They also have marketing tools and information, such as images and specific travel trade collateral, to help sell their products.
Skiing and riding in New Zealand differs from many other areas in the world, as typically there is little on-mountain accommodation. The nearby resort towns offer a variety of accommodation, night life, restaurants and snow equipment specialists. This enables holiday makers to weave other activities such as jet boating, wine-tasting and scenic walks into their holiday.
The geography of New Zealand’s ski resorts delivers variety; from skiing down the slopes of a volcano to riding the magic carpets on the beginners’ slopes high above the plains.
Typically the New Zealand ski season opens in mid June and the resorts remain open until early October. Although, if the snow coverage has been exceptional it has been known for some resorts to remain open until Christmas and the New Year.
