New Zealand Tourism Awards 2008 - Award Categories

You are invited to enter your organization into the New Zealand Tourism Awards 2008, in one or more of the following categories:
  1. Best New Zealand Consumer Brochure
  2. Best New Zealand Trade Brochure
  3. Best New Zealand Online Content
  4. Best New Zealand Consumer Marketing Promotional Campaign
  5. Best New Zealand Trade Marketing Promotional Campaign
  6. Wholesaler of the Year - as voted by the North American Kiwi Specialists

Supreme Award

Entry Guidelines and Requirements

Entry into the New Zealand Tourism Awards is open to all Canadian and United States of America travel companies selling vacations to New Zealand.

Campaigns, brochures and online activity must have been actively promoted or distributed within North America within the past twelve months.

Companies must be actively selling New Zealand in market by 1st May 2008. All brochures/campaigns and websites entered must also be available in market by this date. (Note: judging criteria includes results).

Companies with multiple brochures/campaigns and websites are able to enter multiple categories if desired.

To be eligible for the "Supreme Award" you will need to submit entries into any one of the five qualifying categories: Brochure content, consumer or trade, online content, integrated marketing/promotional campaign, consumer or trade targeted.

Benefits of entering

  • Award logo use on operator brochures, website, business cards and advertising
  • Award logo profiled on operator listing on newzealand.com
  • Included in TNZ press releases around the awards
  • Preferred operator on relevant marketing and PR opportunities
  • Included in Award Winner feature on North American gateways of www.newzealand.com

Presentation

Please complete the template for every entry entered into each category. Any additional or supporting information may be presented on display boards. When judged each category is viewed in isolation of other categories and needs to be in a practical form so that it can be moved without risk of damage. Please also note that there may be a variation of judges viewing different categories.

All entries need to be clearly labeled with company name and category entered. Please supply one brochure for each category entered where requested.

Contents

All categories are judged following the criteria provided. If multi destination brochures/campaigns and websites are entered only New Zealand content will be considered.

Entry Process and Deadline

All entry templates need to be completed and sent electronically to northamericantourismawards@tnz.govt.nz

Terms and Conditions of Entry

  • All information submitted will be treated as confidential
  • Tourism New Zealand reserves the right to promote winners and winning agencies as part of the PR around the Award Ceremony
  • Entries must have been actively sold in the market by the close of the official Awards entry date
  • All entries must be delivered to Tourism New Zealand’s office by 5pm, l May 2008
  • All entries will be judged by a panel of judges
  • Winners will be notified at the Awards Ceremony
  • Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into
  • No cash alternatives to prizes
  • No liability will be accepted for lost, delayed or damaged applications/entries
  • Illegible entries or entries that do not follow our templates will be deemed invalid
  • Entries will not be returned unless expressly stated at time of entry and at operator’s expense
All entries (electronic & hard copies) need to be received by Tourism New Zealand by 5pm on Thursday 1st May 2008 - late submissions will not be accepted.

Tourism New Zealand will confirm receipt of all entries received.

Award Categories

1. Best New Zealand Consumer Brochure

Entry into this category is open to companies who produce a dedicated New Zealand, or a multi-destination, consumer focussed brochure.

Judging criteria will be based on:
  • Range of product & regions, including new product (25%)
  • Ease of understanding and finding information; functionality (20%)
  • Reference to Qualmark as NZ's quality rating system (10%)
  • Range of contemporary images of NZ, accurate descriptions and maps (20%)
  • Effectiveness of brochure for consumers (25%)

2. Best New Zealand Trade Brochure

Entry into this category is open to companies who produce a dedicated New Zealand, or a multi-destination, trade focussed brochure.

Judging criteria will be based on the following:
  • Range of product & regions, including new product (25%)
  • Ease of understanding and finding information; functionality (20%)
  • Reference to Qualmark as NZ's quality rating system (10%)
  • Range of contemporary images of NZ, accurate descriptions and maps (20%)
  • Effectiveness of brochure for consumers (25%)

3. Best New Zealand Online Content

Entry into this category is open to companies who promote New Zealand online. The website must be listed on the 'Getting to New Zealand' section of www.newzealand.com.

Entries will be judged on the New Zealand content within either a solus New Zealand website or a multi-destination website.

Judging criteria will be based on:

  • Range of product & regions, including new product (25%)
  • Ease of navigation and finding information; functionality (20%)
  • Reference to Qualmark as NZ's quality rating system (10%)
  • Range of contemporary images of NZ, accurate descriptions and maps (20%)
  • Effectiveness of website - illustration of measurement and growth (25%)

4. Best New Zealand Consumer Marketing/Promotional Campaign

The Best Consumer New Zealand Marketing/Promotional Campaign will be awarded to the company that best promotes New Zealand through any marketing medium.

The entry should be either a current campaign or one that has run since the last Tourism New Zealand Tourism Awards (May 07). This campaign does not have to be a campaign involving Tourism New Zealand.
Judging criteria will be based on:
  • Campaign strategy - considering seasonality and regional spread issues (25%)
  • Campaign creativity - in line with knowledge of target audience (25%)
  • Impact - effectiveness, clarity and positioning of New Zealand (25%)
  • Consumer response - overall enquiry, ratio to bookings (25%)

The Best Consumer New Zealand Marketing/Promotional Campaign will be awarded to the company that best promotes New Zealand through any marketing medium.

6. Wholesaler of the Year 2008

This award is determined by our Kiwi Specialists who will vote for their choice for Wholesaler of the year. Tourism New Zealand has asked Kiwi Specialists to consider the following standards as guidelines for their decision.

  • Knowledge of staff
  • Friendliness of staff
  • Quality of service
  • Follow ongoing communication
  • Training programs and other support

7) Supreme Award - New Zealand Travel Specialist of the Year 2008

This award will go to the company that stands out as having the strongest commitment to selling New Zealand as the ultimate holiday destination for travelers seeking an interactive holiday. To be eligible for this Supreme Award entrants must have entered at least one other award category.

Judging Criteria

  • Marketing Activity (25%)
  • Product Development (25%)
  • Training and Education (25%)
  • Success of New Zealand Program (including but not limited to ROI and profitability) (25%)
