  • Dunedin’s Scottish heritage: Dunedin derives its name from the Scottish city of Edinburgh evident in the architecture, street names and even its distillery!
  • The student population: gives the city a special character. Dunedin has a reputation as the country's premier centre of learning and is home to Otago University.
  • The Otago Peninsula: a short drive (40 minutes) from the city centre, is home to a colony of the world's rarest penguins, rare New Zealand sea lions and the only mainland breeding colony of the Royal Albatross.
