The Story of Stewart Island
Stewart Island/Rakiura National Park is the third and most southern island in New Zealand. Stewart Island is also known as Te Punga o te Waka a Maui which is the anchor of Maui’s canoe. It refers to the part played by this Island in the legend of Maui, who from his canoe, the South Island, caught and raised the great fish of the North Island
