Aim:
- To increase your knowledge of New Zealand as a holiday destination
- To help you increase your sales to New Zealand and the profitability of each sale
- To increase your knowledge of New Zealand’s indigenous culture, the Māori
Objectives:
By the end of this module you should be able to:
- Put together an itinerary and include elements for your clients wanting a distinctive and unique Māori cultural experience
- Know where to find further information about New Zealand’s indigenous culture
- Be able to explain to your clients the benefits of adding a Māori cultural experience to any New Zealand holiday

Section 1:
- Understanding Māori culture in New Zealand and how your clients can experience it
Section 2:
- Māori experiences available in the following regions
o Te Tai Tokerau – the Northland region
o Tāmaki-makau-rau – greater Auckland area
o Tainui – Waikato, Hauraki Plains and the Coromandel
o Te Arawa – from Maketu to Tongariro Mataatua – Bay of Plenty
o Tai Rāwhiti – East coast of the North Island from Lake Waikaremoana to East Cape
Section 3:
- Māori experiences available in the following regions
o Tākitimu – from Hawkes Bay to the Wairarapa
o Taranaki – North Island’s West Coast from Waitara to Patea
o Whanganui and Manawatū – the Wanganui and Manawatū area
o Te Upoko o te Ika – southern tip of the North Island
o Te Tau Ihu – Nelson, Marlborough Sounds and Golden Bay
o Te Waipounamu – from Kaikōura to Invercargill
o Waka.cfm'>Te Punga o te Waka – Stewart Island
Section 4:
- Annual Events
- Compulsory Task – the compulsory task is designed to test your learning and reinforce your skills. You will be required to incorporate cultural products into sample itineraries provided.
