Tourism New Zealand Hosts Japan Walking Association
Japan's largest consumer 'walking' network, Japan Walking Association (JWA) and Tourism New Zealand are working collectively to promote walking in NZ. The first step was a walking famil in some of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand.
JWA has more than 100,000 members nationwide who are walking enthusiasts and mostly +55 active seniors. At the moment, JWA promotes walking in Japan but some of the members are interested in walking overseas. We are targeting those members to promote 'a holiday to enjoy walking in NZ' through exposure in the JWA membership magazine (Walking Life - circ. 27,000 copies), their website and seminars/events.
The first step was to obtain JWA endorsement so we invited JWA Director Kobayashi-san as well as Nippon Express Travel, JWA’s contracted travel agency, to New Zealand recently for a famil.
The group had walking experience in Arthur’s Pass (Bealley Valley), Mount Cook (Hooker Valley) and Waipoua Forest as well as Hagley Park in Christchurch and Devonport in Auckland.
