Dunedin Ranks in Lonely Planet Top 10
The newly released Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2010 guide book has named Dunedin in three top ten lists.
Dunedin's Otago Peninsula is ranked number one destination in the world for super cycling routes. "The mix of scenery and sweat make this one of the best one day rides" the Lonely Planet says.
The Otago Peninsula is also highlighted as one of the top ten destinations in the world for twitchers (bird watchers) along with Antarctica, Ecuador and The Rift Valley in Kenya. "This wildlife region has become one of New Zealand’s hottest attractions, and its main draw card is birdlife" the guide explains.
The Otago Peninsula is home to the world’s only mainland albatross breeding colony and arguably the world's rarest penguin - the Yellow Eyed Penguin.
Dunedin also ranks in the top ten places to walk your dog in the world alongside Los Angeles, Paris and Tokyo.
