AJ Hackett Bungy

AJ Hackett Bungy

Auckland is home to the worlds first harbour bridge Bungy Jump and is operated by the Bungy originals - AJ Hackett Bungy.

As part of the Bungy experience you'll enjoy an exclusive bridge walk out to the specially-constructed and sensationally-suspended retro 'Bungy pod'. It's here you'll build up the courage to leap out over the Waitamata Harbour.

Once airborne take time to enjoy the views of the harbour, that is if you can keep your eyes open long enough.

There's a variety of Bungy options available with the optional 'water touch' being the favorite.

We believe you won't be able to capture the true spirit of Auckland without giving this Bungy a go.

When native forests were being harvested on the peninsula in the 1800s and early 1900s, Whitianga was a timber port. Ships from Europe came to load up with kauri. Today, Whitianga depends on fishing, farming and tourism for its prosperity. Accommodation is plentiful for much of the year, but the town gets busy over the summer holiday period. Driving distance: 46km / 29 miles

Coromandel

A city/town in the Coromandel Region

Coromandel takes its name from the HMS Coromandel, which dropped anchor here in 1820 to load kauri logs for the English navy. The trunks of young kauri trees are very straight and strong - ideal for ships' masts and spars. The Coromandel’s other treasure, gold, was discovered around 30 years later. Although the serious mining days are over, the town has New Zealand’s last fully functional stamper battery - still on its original site and working on a daily basis. Coromandel also has many restored Victorian buildings. Other local attractions include a narrow gauge mountain railway, mining museum and the Coromandel Coastal Walkway.

White Island

White Island

An island in the Bay of Plenty Region

People talk of White Island (Whakaari) as if it were one volcano, when in fact it is made up of three volcanic cones. The island, which is New Zealand’s most active volcanic site, is shaped like a horseshoe. The crater of the youngest cone is where most of the action happens. Hot water, steam and toxic gases escape from vents; temperatures of up to 800°C have been recorded. The floor of the crater is covered with fine ash. In the past the island was mined for sulphur. Today it is a private scenic reserve. Guided tours of the island can be arranged from Whakatane, Rotorua and Tauranga. You can also go diving and snorkelling around the island.
Functional facts: Helicopters can land on the island, launches can anchor depending on the weather.
