The Sanctuary is situated on Great Barrier Island. Enclosing 150 acres of native bush in valleys of coastal lowland forest, the Sanctuary is being intensively protected to provide a secure habitat for many of our endangered birds and lizards. A botanical walkway has been built through the Sanctuary to a suspension bridge into the top of a large kauri tree.
Guests are housed in a self-contained cottage which sleeps up to 6 people with French doors opening onto two porches with views over the harbour. Small canoes, dinghies and a croquet lawn are also available to share with our guests.
Glenfern Sanctuary received the 2001 ARC Environment Initiatives Award for its work on reforestation and pest control.
