Welcome to Awahuri Garden Lodge. The name Awahuri in the NZ Maori language means "Where the river bends." The Lodge is set 75 yards from the brilliant and pure Waikato River, the only outlet for Lake Taupo in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand. The Lodge itself is a small (two suites), elegant, some say Frank Lloyd Wright-ish, bed and breakfast Inn contained in a delightful, three acre garden. The hosts, William and Suzanne Hindmarsh planted this garden over a period of their 39 year ownership of Awahuri. Some of the trees are more than 60 feet high now, with masses of birds, Rhododendrons, Camellias and perennials in stunning profusion around ponds and a waterfall.
