Take advantage of a 3-4 day tramp along the Matemateaonga Range, taking in the magnificent views of Mt Ruapehu and Mt taranaki in the far distant bush clad hills, farmlands and lowland forests. In 1911, a road along the Matemateaonga Range began, this was to create a more direct link with Raetihi and the main trunk railway. This was been followed up by a roading gang, widening and securing a substantial road. The road was abandoned due to the men being called to arms - 1st WW.
