Hike the Hamilton - Waikato region, known for its rolling green hills, mighty Waikato river and picturesque little towns.

Waikato is home to a number of scenic walks which travel through nature and sometimes traverse mountains. Travel a short distance from Hamilton to Te Aroha to try the Te Aroha Mountain Track. A return trip takes just under 5 hours, on a fine day you’ll be rewarded with 360-degree views of the sprawling countryside.

The Waikato region is also home to many stunning waterfalls including the highest in NZ at 153m, Wairere Falls near Matamata, the ‘most beautiful’ in NZ, Marokopa Falls near Waitomo, and the picturesque Bridal Veil Falls near Raglan – all providing great walks of varying lengths.

Other highlights include the Mangapohue Natural Bridge walk and Ruakuri Bush walk near Waitomo, and the Mt Pirongia walks, which take in part of Te Araroa – New Zealand’s Trail.

For a real fitness challenge, take on the infamous Hakarimata Summit Walk, at 374m above sea level, the stairs to the summit have become a popular fitness challenge among locals and visitors alike.
