Drag Racing Heaven in Masterton

Regardless of whether drag racing is your thing, there is no doubt the smell of rubber and noise of the engines clock is an experience fans love.

Located only a few minutes from central Masterton, the largest of five townships that make up the Wairarapa a region which is an hour’s drive or train ride from Wellington,  the Masterton Motorplex is New Zealand’s first purpose built track in over 35 years.

National events are held here regularly over the summer with the country’s top drivers, representing a variety of classes - from front end dragsters, modified and super charged outlaws to dragstalgia cars and super sedans. The  impressive 900m tar sealed track, which is 20m wide, boasts a one per cent uphill gradient after the finish line to help slow vehicles down, as well as a sand pit whilst a large staging area is a bonus for drivers.

You can sit in the grandstand to watch all the exciting action unfold.
