1500 metres of nothing but down!
If you’re lucky enough to live or visit Queenstown and enjoy mountain biking, I would highly recommend taking part in a heli-bike trip.
During my visit last month, I took part in the Ben Cruachan ride; a 1500 m, 18 km descent located in the Remarkables range.
Starting at an altitude just shy of 2000m, we were guided down 6 km of open rocky ridgeline. This leg of the descent provided us with some of the area’s best views – make sure you don’t forget your camera for this trip.
Following the ridgline down, we dropped into a super flowy alpine singletrack. This part of the trail was just plain fun! The singletrack hugs the mountain for about 6 km, exposing you to more spectacular views and awesome scenery.
The last bit of trail takes you down a fast and wide open 4wd road, which finishes in Gibston Valley. An awesome ride, put together by a great company – Vertigo Bikes.
