Manawatu - it's Time 2 Go!

Rural charm and Kiwi hospitality takes pride of place here. Enjoy a beer at the Tui Brewery or get lost in our rugby heritage at the National Rugby Museum

The Manawatu offers something for everyone. Lose yourself in the many great cafes, restaurants, boutique stores, historic homesteads and beautiful private gardens of Palmerston North, the region's largest city. Join a guided tour of the Feilding Salesyards with local farmers as your guide, watch the undulating wands of the largest windfarm in the Southern Hemisphere on ridges high above the plains, then explore the spectacular Manawatu Gorge below on a thrilling jet boat ride.

Sandwiched between the Tararua Ranges and the Tasman Sea, Horowhenua's laidback country lifestyle provides the perfect atmosphere in which to relax and unwind. Highlights include bird watching at Manawatu River Estuary; Foxton's museums and authentic Dutch windmill; and Owlcatraz, a native owl park in Shannon. Horticulture is big in this region so keep an eye out for roadside vegetable and fruit stalls.

Inland, yet running parallel to the Pacific Coast, State Highway 2 from Norsewood to Pahiatua offers several reasons to stop and explore. Good fishing can be found both on inland rivers and all along the Pacific coastline, while the Ruahine Ranges and its Forest Park boast a variety of walks and tramps. Browse through the antique shops of Woodville, take a brewery tour in Mangatainoka, and visit historic homes to catch a glimpse of bygone pioneering days.
