The logistics and planning required for a 5 day walk on the Milford Track can be a little overwhelming. So we've planned out your whole itinerary to make sure that you are able to relax and simply enjoy your Milford Track Guided Walk.

From your Pre-Track Briefing to ensure that you are adequately prepared, to 3 course dinners and comfortable beds on track, we've thought of everything to ensure your safety and comfort. And our experienced guides will ensure  that you don't miss any of the track highlights along the way.  We've even organised a spectacular cruise on Milford Sound before returning to Queenstown.

Day 0: Pre Track Briefing

On the afternoon before your departure you are encouraged to attend a Pre-Track Briefing at the Ultimate Hikes Centre in Queenstown or Te Anau.

Here you will receive a complete outline of your walk, pick up equipment, and purchase last minute items.  you will also complete the required medical forms, and we can answer any questions that you may have.  It is also a great opportunity to meet your fellow walkers.

Day 1 : Queenstown - Te Anau - Glade House

The adventure begins at our Queenstown office where you board a coach to Te Anau, arriving around midday. Lunch will be provided. From Te Anau Downs harbour, a boat takes you up to the head of Lake Te Anau. It's a short walk from the wharf to the historic Glade House.  Following a group photo, the guides will take you on a short nature walk to explore the area.  In the evening, gather in the lodge for a three-course dinner and a briefing, then it's time to get some rest in our snug beds.

Day 2: Glade House - Pompolona Lodge

After crossing the emerald green Clinton River you will walk up the valley, calling into the Wetlands Walk on the way.  Lunch is at the Hirere Falls lunch shelter on the river's edge. The beech forest gets more luxuriant the farther you go, until you emerge on to the Prairie. From this meadow you can capture the true nature of the ice-carved Clinton Canyon. From here, it is a short climb to Pompolona Lodge and afternoon tea.

Day 3: Pompolona Lodge - Quintin Lodge via Mackinnon Pass

This is the most demanding day, especially in inclement weather. The track leads to Lake Mintaro at the head of the Clinton Valley, before climbing the Mackinnon Pass in a series of zig-zags.  At the top you will be rewarded with spectacular panorama and have lunch and a hot drink in Pass Hut. Take your time on the rocky descent, beside the stunning cascades, into the Arthur Valley to Quintin Lodge. Welcome refreshments should rejuvenate you for the optional 90 minute round trip to the Sutherland Falls, the world's fifth highest waterfall.  This optional walk is highly recommended.

Day 4: Quintin Lodge - Mitre Peak Lodge via Sandfly Point

Today, you will walk down the Arthur Valley to Boatshed.  after a short break here, you will cross the Arthur River and walk on past Mackay Falls and Bell Rock (highlights of the day) and around Lake Ada, to the lunch spot at Giant's Gate waterfall. The final stretch of track rejoins the Arthur River to Sandfly Point.

From here it is a short launch trip to the renowned Mitre Peak Lodge, your accommodation at Milford Sound offering superb views of Mitre Peak.  Here you can enjoy a well earned rest before a celebratory dinner with the magnificence of Milford Sound right in front of you.

Day 5: Mitre Peak Lodge - Milford Sound - Te Anau - Queenstown

Wake to the tranquillity of Fiordland and after breakfast experience a spectacular cruise on Milford Sound. Watch for the dolphins and fur seals and pray for rain, as you've only seen Fiordland at its most incredible when the waterfalls are in full flow.

Following the cruise it's time to head back to Queenstown travelling by coach through the heart of Fiordland National Park, through the Homer Tunnel and along the Milford Road, through Te Anau to Queenstown, arriving late afternoon.

We also provide an option at an additional cost, and weather permitting, to take a spectacular helicopter flight across fiordland and Mt Aspiring National Parks back to Queenstown.
