Whakarewarewa Forest, is just five minutes from the centre of Rotorua and is considered by many to be one of the district’s most spectacular natural assets. Whether you want an adrenaline rush from mountain biking or a peaceful stroll, you must visit the Redwoods during your stay in Rotorua. Both the walking tracks and mountain biking trails offer a wide range of options for all ages and fitness levels.
To access the walking tracks head to the information centre, located on Longmile Road. For mountain biking the preferred entrance is the Waipa carpark off State Highway 5 for access to both the trails and bike rentals.
Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland
Explore stunning, natural, geothermal wonders at New Zealand’s most colourful volcanic area, Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. Here you can view the unique geothermal environment as you walk at your own pace along well defined tracks. At 10.15am each day the Lady Knox Geyser erupts, reaching heights of 10-15 minutes during a presentation in the natural amphitheatre.
Wai-o-Tapu is located approximately 20 minutes south of Rotorua, if you do not have your own transportation you may wish to consider Thermal Land Shuttle.
