Sir Stanley Whitehead Park

A walk for the fit and agile 1.5-2hrs

Named after Sir Stanley Whitehead who was a Nelson MP from 1957-1976, this walk starts from opposite Founders Historic Park with a steep zig zag up hill.

Towards the top of the hill take the right turn option, walk a bit further up and go through the right hand gate where you will be pleased to see a green seat waiting for you to take a break on. You will be well rewarded with fantastic sea views of Nelson city and Tasman Bay while you take a breather.

Walking along the farm land, with sheep in tow, you will get even more great city, sea and mountain views so ensure to take your camera.

Having left the sheep behind, and walked through the last gate, walk down a short hill taking a sharp left to walk down to Branford park which meets up with the Maitai Valley, here cross the Nile Street Bridge for a nice gentle track back to the city centre along the Maitai River.
