Aoraki Mount Cook Mackenzie transforms into a magical winter playground come winter. It’s the perfect destination for a secluded romantic getaway or a fun-fuelled family holiday. With four ski fields, the longest ski run in New Zealand and heli-skiing opportunities, there’s something for everyone!

Roundhill Ski Area

A 40 minute drive from Lake Tekapo village you’ll find Roundhill Ski Area. With a reputation for being one of the best family ski areas in the country, the ski field captures all day sun and delivers spectacular views of Lake Tekapo and the surrounding Southern Alps. Roundhill offers an extensive area for learners and children with a platter lift and two beginner rope tows. If you’ve forgotten your gear or made a last minute decision to hit the slopes, the rental facilities are comprehensive.

A platter and two T-bars access vast areas of groomed learner and intermediate runs with lots of dips and curves offering endless variety. A terrain park complete with rails, boxes and kickers cater to freestylers while Roundhill’s claim to fame is that it’s home to the world’s longest rope tow – The Heritage Express. The Heritage Express transports you to the top of the Richmond Range to experience Australasia’s biggest vertical drop with a staggering 783 meters of black diamond vertical!

Mt Dobson Ski Area

Mt Dobson is owned and operated by the Foote family of Farlie with the mission to make it the friendliest ski field around. The warm and friendly atmosphere on the mountain definitely reflects their family values and is the perfect place to learn how to ski/board with learner slopes positioned to take advantage of all day sun. Varied terrain ranges from wide-open groomed runs to gullies forming natural half pipes. The mountain offers large areas of intermediate and advanced runs accessible by a T-bar and a triple chairlift.

Ohau Snow Fields

Nestled between the Ohau Range and Ben Ohau Range with stunning views of Lake Ohau, the Ohau Snow Fields cater for all abilities. Facilities include a snow mat in the beginner area and a platter and double chair to access a vast variety of intermediate and advanced runs. For the experienced skier it’s worth hiking to the ridge to access unlimited gullies and chutes.

The base facilities at Ohau include a great café, ski/board rental and ski school. For those wanting to make the most of the snow it’s well worth staying at nearby Ohau Lodge offering 72 rooms or at one of the many holiday homes for hire in Ohau Village.

Ski the Tasman Glacier

Ski New Zealand’s longest glacier, the Tasman Glacier, for a truly unique and breath-taking experience. Suitable for intermediate to advanced skiers the adventure begins with a flight landing directly on the glacier to ski New Zealand’s longest run of 8-12km. Ski the Tasman and Tasman Glacier Skiing based out of Aoraki Mount Cook Village offer Tasman Glacier skiing packages including two long ski runs, professional guiding service, lunch, safety equipment and flights to and from the mountain.

Fox Peak Ski Field

A non-profit club field located on the Two Thumb Range, 40km from Fairlie. Fox Peak is open on the weekends and run by devoted club members. Renowned for its friendly and uncrowded atmosphere, Fox Peak offers four rope tows and one platter lift providing access to a variety of terrain.

Fox Lodge is located halfway up the access road providing backpacker style self-catering facilities. The modern communal kitchen, cosy and sociable atmosphere is a great way to meet fellow skiers/boarders and be close to all the action.
