Still deciding when to take your ski holiday to Treble Cone, Wanaka? Here is your insider’s guide to the best days to shred – weather, snow conditions, events and hype.
June/July is an exciting month, much anticipated in the local community. Getting on the first chairlift of the season is recognised as a badge of honour, carried around for the whole season. And with some fantastic early snowfall in recent years, first chairlift can also mean first tracks over at the Saddle Basin.
The school holidays create a hive of activity in the Snow Sport School and all over the mountain. Throughout, there’s plenty to do, the highlight being TC Cat’s birthday to celebrate! Lots of on snow progression to be for those children attending the race and freeride camps running for 5 days each over the two weeks of the New Zealand school holidays.
With August comes colder temperatures and some of the best skiing winter has to offer. Although you can never predict what Mother Nature will dish out, one thing is for sure, you can always count on a few killer storms with the odd powder day thrown in for good measure. If you enjoy spectating there is also some international and local kids ski racing, the Banked Slalom and numerous other events for both you and slightly older to keep you entertained.
September is the month for fun in the sun, so if you’re more of a fair weather skier or just love the spring snow, then September is the month for you. It is the time to enjoy a day of riding with the slopes to yourself and finish with an après beer on Treble Cone’s Sun Deck overlooking Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps.
