Auckland's wine regions

Auckland is encircled by wine regions, so a visit to some of Auckland’s wineries is a must. Enjoy wine tastings, delicious food and gorgeous scenery.

Waiheke Island

Just a 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland, Waiheke is known as the 'Island of Wine' for its many wineries and vineyards. From prominent clifftop wineries to hidden cellar doors, you’ll find award-winning vintages and a wide range of varietals. Enjoy your wine with spectacular views of the countryside or across the Hauraki Gulf. Join a wine tour or select a few wineries and make your own way.

A 50-minute drive north from downtown Auckland, Matakana’s beautiful beaches, boutique vineyards and local arts scene make this region a divine destination. Sample superb wines at boutique vineyards, walk the outdoor sculpture trail at one of the area’s top wineries, and indulge in a leisurely lunch overlooking the vines. Hop on a small group tour for tastings and expert tips.

Auckland’s oldest wine region is a refreshing blend of boutique wineries and orchards in a picturesque countryside setting. Try a cellar door tasting at one of Kumeu’s many vineyards, ranging in size from small artisan to some of the best-known names in New Zealand wine.
