Nydia Track itinerary

The Nydia Track a wonderful adventure for hikers and mountain bikers. It takes two days to complete on foot, with an overnight stop at beautiful Nydia Bay.

Day 1

Duncan Bay > Nydia Bay Campsite

Glimpses of sea peak through the lush coastal forest as you follow the shoreline to Ngawhakawhiti Bay. From here the track climbs to Nydia saddle, where you are greeted by great views of Tennyson Inlet. Descend to Nydia Campsite for the night or travel on to Nydia Lodge.

Nydia Bay Campsite > Nydia Lodge

From the Nydia Bay campsite the travel through regenerating native forest to the lodge turn-off. Nydia Lodge is a 30 min walk around the shore from the turn-off.

1 hour 30 min walking

 

Day 2

Nydia Lodge > Kaiuma Bay

Return around the shore to the Nydia Lodge turn-off and follow the stream across open farmland. The track then turns upward traveling through beech forest and regenerating scrub to Kaiuma Saddle. Look out for views of Marlborough’s highest mountain, Tapuae-o-Uenuku, in the distance.

From the saddle, the track drops quickly before sidles around to a point above Kaiuma Bay.

Getting there

  • Catch a water taxi from Havelock to the Kaiuma Bay.
  • Return by shuttle bus from Tennyson Inlet.

 

Need to know

  • Some streams are not bridged, take care when crossing.
  • This is a dual mountain bike/walking track.
