Kiwi creativity at its best, the World of WearableArt has grown from humble beginnings to become a global phenomenon.

Each year Wellington stages the World of WearableArt Awards Show (WOW), an event that has grown from humble beginnings to become a global phenomenon.
Works of art designed to be worn on the human form come together in a dramatic show that combines theatre, dance, colour and movement.
The show has been described as “a rebellion against the mundane” where “Mardi Gras meets haute couture” and is a spectacle that has to be seen to be believed.
The Awards Show began in 1987 as a promotion for a rural art gallery when Nelson sculptor Suzie Moncrieff came up with the idea of exhibiting art in a live theatrical show.
Now the annual event is recognised as one of the leading wearable art shows in the world and the road to success is catalogued in a special museum in Nelson.
Wellington is New Zealand’s arts and culture capital and the 14-day show season is backed up by plenty for visitors who appreciate creativity, artistic talents and good living.
