Stewart Island has a high population of Southern Brown Kiwi (Tokoeka). The best way to find them is to go on a guided tour with a local. Beaks and Feathers offers just the tour. Leave Halfmoon Bay once the hours of darkness arrive, for a quick 2 minute drive to private land where Southern Brown Kiwi come out to feed. Walk along flat easy terrain looking for kiwi. Beaks and Feathers offers small groups of 2 - 7 people. This allows minimun disturbance for the kiwi and often offers close up encounters. We have a 99% success rate for kiwi sightings. The highest sucess for spotting kiwi on Stewart Island. The tour usually lasts around 1.5 hours. Torches are supplied. Families are welcome
