The celestial disc looms large over the cultural landscape of the Waimārama people. Stone sentinels ring the disc. They are the guardians, the keepers of knowledge. It is a place of power.
People gather here to remember the past and make plans for the future. Stars in the firmament remind us of loved ones lost; others track the trail of discovery that bought the first ancestors to this land. People come to consult the maramataka, the lunar calendar. There are customs and protocols and your guides will clear the way. The site visit ends with a moving greeting to the new day. We will conclude the tour by sharing food together. Return to a family home and enjoy a cup of kawakawa tea, and time with the family, and share a light breakfast.
