Explore Mosgiel

Explore Southland from Mosgiel, a small community in a great landscape.

Farm Park
Come and see your favourite farm animals up close at Chancarla. Specialising in miniature horses, this Mosgiel attraction is hard to beat. The kids will love feeding the alpacas, petting the rabbits and seeing the donkeys. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy your afternoon spending quality time with animals.

Take the morning off and take a dip in the Mosgiel pool. The water is the perfect temperature to leisurely paddle about or swim some laps. The inflatable adventure course is set up every weekend to entertain the kids. If you’re after something a little less strenuous, try the aqua jogging – we’ll supply the belts. On a hot day, or cold, the pool is a great Mosgiel activity to do.

Mosgiel is the home to Taieri Lakes Golf Course, or just a 15 minute drive over the hill to play Balmacewen Golf Course, Chisholm Park Golf Course and St Clair Golf Course.

The area is rich with history, with a strong Maori connection. Discover the legends of ancient migrants and their perilous tales of travel to the area. Later, the area developed rapidly due to the Otago goldrush.
Explore the town and learn about its intricacies and oddities as you wander the main streets. Mosgiel is surrounded by the glorious Otago landscape, known for its vast plateaus and rolling tussocked hills. Hop on the train at Wingatui and enjoy one of the world's great train trips through the Taieri Gorge.

If you’re planning a trip south, Mosgiel is the gateway to Highway 87, Outram, Middlemarch, Ranfurly, and Alexandra. Make sure to book a night in the Bella Vista Motel Mosgiel. Offering 4 star quality rooms at great rates, it’s the perfect place to enjoy the best of Mosgiel and the closest Dunedin Airport accommodation.
