Once there, Queenstown makes a great base to take fantastic day trips, including sailing the fiords at Milford Sound, day walks near Glenorchy and exploring the rich gold mining history in nearby Arrowtown.

Nestled on the shores of crystal clear Lake Wakatipu, and surrounded by The Remarkables mountain range, Queenstown’s just a 3 hour direct flight from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne and is also well connected to New Zealand’s main domestic airports.

A driving holiday in the region will take you through some of the most diverse and awe-inspiring landscapes in New Zealand, and the open roads will take you past fantastic coffee stops, friendly winery restaurants, cellar doors and countless beauty spots – don’t forget your camera!

From here you can choose many routes to explore, including heading over to the rugged West Coast via Wanaka, or take the Southern Scenic Route, through lush farmland, rolling hills and past secluded beaches to Dunedin.
