Visiting Akaroa Harbour on a cruise ship? Want to do something very few people get to do? Imagine going back to the ship with a story different to almost everyone else. A Classic Ride Akaroa has the answer. It is the only the Honda GoldWing & sidecar tour in New Zealand.
With room on the motorbike for one & a generously sized sidecar for one (or two small-medium people) and trips from 1/2hr to 3 hrs there are less than 30 people who could possibly take this unique tour in Akaroa Harbour.
30 minutes takes in the steep & exciting Lighthouse Rd for views over the town & harbour; down to Onuku Marae where the ship will be viewed along with the beautiful little church & meeting house (a small donation is appreciated at the church) followed by a tour of the town.
A 1 hr tour cruises through Akaroa township up Longbay Rd to the rim of the volcanic crater that makes Akaroa Harbour. From high above Long Bay over the magnificent Hinewai Reserve the Pacific Ocean stretches to the horizon. Around the Summit Rd with spectacular views over Takamatua and the inner harbour, Le Bons Bay, Okains Bay on the east coast & back to the inner harbour above Robinsons Bay before descending the steep & winding Okains Bay Rd back to SH 75 & on to Akaroa.
The Southern Alps & Kaikoura ranges are often visible on clear days especially if they have snow on them.
The 1 1/2 hr tour goes on past Okains Bay Rd to Pigeon Bay & Duvauchelle.
The 2 hr tour goes on to the Hilltop then back to Akaroa via the Barrys Bay Cheese factory. Stops can be made at The Hilltop and/or the cheese factory depending on how may other stops you take in between.
All tours have ample photo stops. Interesting facts & stories at each stop & the chance to swap from sidecar to bike for a change of scene. Richard is knowledgeable on the & has lots of anecdotes about the area & the characters who inhabit it. Let him know your particular interests & be prepared some entertainment.
Most people are able to get in & out of the sidecar. Richard provides a step & is very helpful.
