Welcome Flat Hot Pools, Copland Track

New Zealand is a geothermal hotbed of activity, with hundreds of natural hot pools in the wilderness, including Welcome Flat Hot Pools, Copland Track.

Take two Kiwi favourite pastimes - tramping (aka hiking) and soaking in natural thermal springs - and join them together for the ultimate outdoor adventure! The Copland Track, on the West Coast of the South Island, is an incredible tramp that takes you gently up the Copland Valley through beech forest, across grassy clearings and rivers. The alpine views along the trail are stunning!

Most people hike the trail as an overnight trip, meaning you don't need to carry a whole lot - and there's a comfortable backcountry hut, so carrying a tent or sleeping pad isn't necessary. One item you will want to bring though, is some bathers (unless you choose to take a dip in your underwear!). The natural thermal springs, or hot pools, are located near the Welcome Flat Hut, just a couple of minutes down a side trail. There's nothing better than a warm soak after a day's hike!

There are a few different pools to choose from, ranging in temperature and there’s plenty of room for a small group (say 10-12 people). It makes for a pretty special evening when you reach the hut, drop off your pack, rest your legs, grab a snack, get changed and then head on down for a relaxing soak!

Active Adventures New Zealand include the Copland Track as part of their 14-day Winter Adventure, called the 'Winter Rimu'. Hiking in a guided tour, with legendary Kiwi guides and like-minded travellers is the best hassle-free way to experience New Zealand!
