The region’s sub-tropical oceanic climate has warm humid summers and mild wet winter.

Popular Northland destinations include Whangarei, Whangarei Heads, the Bay of Islands and Cape Reinga (the northernmost tip of New Zealand).

Whangarei is a scenic 2.5 hour drive from Auckland, and further north are great camping spots and holiday accommodation options. Travellers can choose from a variety of holiday homes, hotels, motels, camping grounds and bed & breakfast lodges.

Northland boasts many beaches and stunning coastline with white sandy beaches. It is also home to the famous Waipoua Forest on the Kauri Coast, home of the country’s largest Kauri tree.

Spoilt for choice, visitors to Northland have a variety of things to see and do including:

Eat fish & chips on a wharf as others try to catch their supper

Northland’s transparent waters are one of the favourite playgrounds for lovers of anything aquatic

Body surf waves from the Tasman Sea or Pacific Ocean
