The harbour side city of Auckland is surrounded by natural attractions. There are plenty of beautiful places to visit within an hour of the CBD.
On Auckland's West Coast you’ll find the ruggedly beautiful black-sand beaches of Piha, Muriwai, Bethells and Karekare. Auckland’s East Coast is home to more tranquil coastline that looks out to harbours dotted with islands. Don’t miss a visit to Goat Island – a marine reserve and snorkelling mecca; Tawharanui Regional Park, or the quaint beaches of Devonport.
Auckland is also home to 48 dormant and extinct volcanic cones, many of which offer spectacular walking paths and views at the top. Don’t miss a short hike up Mount Eden, where you’ll find panoramic views of the Auckland region, or catch the ferry to Rangitoto, a volcanic island in the Auckland Harbour.
