Waikato Cherry Tree Festival

After the long, cold winter, this is an event of happy people: families, friends and couples taking photos under the canopy of flowering cherry trees.

In spring, we always had people inviting themselves onto the spectacular flowering cherry tree drive of our property and garden, developed over 20 years. So, last year, we said 'lets open this up to the public to share this beautiful space'.

We thought that with a lot of effort we might get 200-300 to attend, and that would be a success. Well, we only did one facebook post, sold out in a week, ended up with over 2000 attending and sadly had to turn away many hundreds from the gate who did not have tickets.

This year, 2018, we are extending the hours and days and increasing the capacity.

It is truly a multicultural event, people from Philippines, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, New Zealand, Australia, UK, US, Myanmar and more.

Friday - Sunday 21-23 September, 8AM to 8PM.

This year the festival is open in the evenings with night lighting.

The address is 125 Matangi Road, RD 4, Hamilton. The pedestrian entrance is on Yumelody Lane where here is plenty of parking and a large turning circle (suitable for large buses too) at the end of the dead end road.

In addition to the flowering cherry trees, there are:
• Many different performers
• Stilt walkers, human statues, apologisers ...
• Face-painters
• Food and drink vendors
• Kids activities including pony rides
• Feeding animals: alpacas and cows
• Beautiful gardens with ponds and a stream.
